Puget Sound Estuarium Offers Virtual Education Opportunities and Exhibits

The Puget Sound Estuarium's Mission is to Foster Learning Opportunities that Inspire People of all Ages to Connect with, Protect and Enjoy the Unique Estuary Environment of Puget Sound

Founded by the South Sound Estuary Association (SSEA) in 2007, The Puget Sound Estuarium's mission is to foster learning opportunities that inspire people of all ages to connect with, protect and enjoy the unique estuary environment of Puget Sound. They encourage community members to EXPLORE animals and plants in their local estuaries, where freshwater and saltwater meet. They CONNECT people of all ages to what is unique about this delicate, vibrant ecosystem. And their educational opportunities INSPIRE individuals to take better care of our shared natural resources.

In 2010, The Puget Sound estuarium was granted federal 501 (c) (3) status and has been registered since 2007 as a non-profit corporation with Washington Secretary of State. South Sound Estuary Association (SSEA) DBA Puget Sound Estuarium is also registered as a Washington state charity.

While COVID-19 has changed some in-person exhibits and instruction, the Puget Sound Estuarium still has a variety of virtual education opportunities and programs available.

Virtual Field Trips

These field trips are available for students from pre-K through grade 12. These virtual learning field trips offer students unique hands-on activities and are linked to the STEM standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Ocean Literacy Frameworks. Explore the Estuarium’s tanks filled with local marine life and understand the complexity of estuaries through virtual experiments led by Estuarium staff. Learn more about virtual field trips HERE.

School Estuary Kits

The Puget Sound Estuarium is excited to pilot twenty estuary themed kits for grades 6th-8th. All kits include enough materials for a group of 30 students and the content is designed for age appropriate learning. The School Estuary Kits support current educational standards (Next Generation Science Standards, STEM Literacy and Estuary Principles & Concepts).
