Downtown Olympia's Six Live Theater Events You Won't Want to Miss

Chase Away the Winter Blues with Real, Live Theater!

We’re lucky to live in a city with a unique culture and variety of theatre and live performance options right here in our community. We’ve put together a list of six not-to-be-missed performances coming up over the next 30 days. Mark your calendar!

1.    Laugh any winter blues away at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts Comedy in the Box. Washington Center’s Comedy in the Box brings regional and national comedians to their Black Box theater—a unique, intimate venue with a full bar. With a new lineup of three comedians for each show, it’s sure to tickle your funny bone!

2.    Love hearing people’s stories? Come to StoryOly Olympia’s premiere Story Slam event, the third Tuesday of every month. Community members come together every month to share, compete and tell true stories based on a monthly theme. StoryOly aims to encourage and develop community engagement and connection through the medium of storytelling.
Tuesday, January 15, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

*All StoryOly events are a pay what you can with a suggested donation of $5-10.  They want events to be affordable for all members of the community and no one will be turned away if they can't pay. StoryOly also donates half of all ticket sales to local charities and non-profits.

3.    Harlequin seeks to invigorate, educate, and empower our community and all people to feel more, think more, play more, and judge less through the mirror of real live theatre.

Check out their next production, I Ought to Be in Pictures, starring Jason Haws, Ann Flannigan, and Elex Hill in this bittersweet comedy by Neil Simon, directed by Corey McDaniel (I Am My Own Wife.)

4.    Olympia Family Theater Presents The Mitten in its Let’s Play performance in January. Let’s Play are dynamic, interactive shows performed in our lobby and are suitable for ALL ages. They are between 20-30 minutes in length and perfect for the very youngest of audience members- toddlers, preschoolers and up. Giggles guaranteed.

$5 per person – CASH or CHECK at the door when you arrive.(under 2 yrs- free with paying adult!)

+Give yourself extra time to find on-street parking
+Plan to arrive at the theater at least 15 minutes before the show start time
+No reserve seating / no advance ticket sales

5.    The cherished tale of The Wizard of Oz has provided entertainment for generations. Check out The Washington Center for the Performing Arts Main Stage production of this classic on Wednesday, January 16.

6.    Le Voyeur Café and Lounge offers a variety of shows and performances for all ages. Stop by on Wednesday nights beginning at 6 p.m. for an open mic comedy night, Vomity.
