Run and Have Fun in Downtown Oly!

Run AND have fun, you ask? It's true; you can do both right here in downtown Olympia.

Run AND have fun, you ask? It's true; you can do both right here in downtown Olympia. Fit and fun Olympia residents have formed social clubs around the theme of combining exercise with sampling some local beers. With the warmer weather coming, it's a great time to get out and exercise and reward yourself by sipping a brew outside while enjoying the beautiful Pacific Northwest views.  Whether you're a beginner or training for Olympia's own Capital City Marathon, there's a group suited for you!

As soon as the snow and freezing temperatures seem to be in the rearview mirror, many Pacific Northwesterners get a hankering for a cold one on the patio or a nice active afternoon in the great outdoors. There are few pleasures in life more relaxing than sipping a cold beer on a warm, clear evening while watching the sunset over Puget Sound. Enjoy it after some rigorous outdoor exercise, and you’ll be in for a surge of endorphins to get you through your week.

In Olympia, many people have discovered the joys of combining running and beer, and some have even formed 21 and over clubs to socialize over these two activities. The Pints’ Pavement Pounders Running Club has been encouraging Olympians to “get fit, be social, and pound a pint or two” since 2012. Every Thursday between March and Thanksgiving, the Pints’ Pavement Pounders meet up and enjoy a three-mile run. Special events include pub crawls, costume runs, ski trips, brewery nights at places like Well 80, and contributions to local community charities.

“We’ve had five couples meet at P3 and get engaged and married,” says Founding Mother Megan. “If people want to get involved, they can message us on Facebook, email pintsrun@gmail.com, or just show up any Thursday at 6:00 p.m., and we’ll get them signed up for free!”

If you’re really ambitious and want to do a social run two days in a row, you can join The Oly Road Dawgs Running Club on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. Started in 2016 with a goal to “make running fun!,” the Oly Road Dawgs brings people of all ability levels together for a fun and safe community run. While the Road Dawgs regularly frequent the Oly Taproom, a shout-out is also in order for Three Magnets Brewing Co.

Look for both of these running clubs and many more at the annual Capital City Marathon on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

See you downtown!
